Main: Tutorials: Two Level Building

Part 2: Creating A Room

In this tutorial lets make a building with 2 rooms (on two floors) and the outside of the building (a layout similar to the map City Street Large)

Begin by making a box (which will be our room) about 800 cm long, 2000 wide and 300 high. Name the box 'Room01_01' and flip the normals.

Click Edit Mesh and Press Explode. Name the object 'Room01_'. Press Ok. Now in Perspective mode click on the floor polygon and add an 'F' (or Floor if you have lots of time on your hands) at the end of its name. Do the same for the ceiling, but instead add a C at the end of its name (or add ceiling).

Now select the floor polygon and go to edit->properties and click the User Defined tab. Now in the text box type 'floorface'. (This is the faster alternative to opening up Rommel Editor and checking Floor Polygon. This is actually what the Rommel Editor does. Tagging this way will save you lots of time and nerves)

Group all the walls we created from the box as '_01' to signify room01.

Part 3: Making the Second Floor Room

Now we will want to make the second floor of the house. In order to have a second floor in the map, we will have to create a shermanlevelheight2.0 square (remember the first part of this tutorial?). So press '5' to open the 'unhide menu' and unhide shermanlevelheight1.0. Select the shermanlevelheight1.0 and click edit->clone. Choose copy radio button and name the cloned object 'shermanlevelheight2.0'. Press Ok.

Now select the shermanlevelheight2.0 and go to edit->properties and click the User Defined tab. Change the 'levelheight=1.0' to 'levelheight=2.0'. Press Ok.

Now move the shermanlevelheight2.0 up, so it is about 30 cm above the ceiling of room 01. (this is will be the height of the second room floor)

That is all; select and hide both of the shermanlevelheights.

Now lets make the second floor room. Normaly you would create a box that is 30 cm above the first room. However, to save time, I would just clone the first room and move it up. (Also if I am about to clone a room, I might just texture it first, but for the sake of the tutorial I will do that later.). So clone the first room and name it _02. Move it up so that it is 30 cm above the first room.

The problem now is that the objects inside the group _02 are named all wrong. We want to have them named as Room02_# (this ia all for organization puroses and does not necessary have to be done). So ungroup _02 and in each name change the 'Room01' to 'Room02' (The numbers aren't that important) Here is what I ended up with after renaming:

Group the second floor room as '_02'.
